CRADLE OF FILTH – NEW ALBUM ‘THE MANTICORE & OTHER HORRORS’ COMING THIS HALLOWE’EN

UK extreme metallers Cradle of Filth are set to release their new masterwork ‘The Manticore & other Horrors’ this Hallowe’en on Peaceville Records.

The title of this, Cradle Of Filth’s tenth studio full-length, can be likened to a bestiary, a collection of stories on Monsters; personal demons, Chimeras, literary fiends and world-enslaving entities to blame but a few, Manticore being the ravening title track. It is a song about a beautiful mythological horror that comes to be feared as the disfigurehead of foreign occupation in the Indian provinces.

The songs Illicitus and Pallid Reflection bare the sweet ingredients of vampirism and lycanthropy; the wicked For Your Vulgar Delectation and Frost On her Pillow are woven perversely into grim fairytales, whilst classic, monumental tracks like The Abhorrent and Siding With The Titans both extol tentacular Lovecraftian values.

The album itself possesses an altogether new atmosphere for the band, incorporating a heavier, faster NWOBBM punk vibe that is both current and cruel, blended with ornate orchestration and the quirky immediateness of 2000’s Midian opus.

Recorded in eight  weeks at both Springvale and Grindstone studios (where it was also mixed by Scott Atkins), Suffolk, the album is testament to the longevity of The ‘Filth, as not only does it reek of Cradle’s (feared or revered) brand of delicious metal vamperotica, but this thoroughly modern album places the band firmly in fresh killing fields anew.

Singer Dani Filth had this to say on the new album:

‘This is our tenth commandment in metal. We have diversified and kept alive the spirit of this band and breathed it into something that I can proudly say, slays like an absolute motherf**ker. The Manticore is coming… Long live the filth!’

Cradle of Filth is also set to spread their darkness upon European lands with a tour throughout November & December.

My Reading Festival 2012 Experience

Despite my aching back from “too much alcohol in back pack” pain, I somehow set up my tent with a friend and beat the boys by a mile (yes!)

The drinking commenced and the days longed out until the music began and there it was before I knew it, Friday! I was super excited to get into the arena and start having my ciders and using nice toilets … oh and the music. I feasted my eyes upon The Blackout, You Me at Six, Paramore and the wonderful Foster the People and The Maccabees who were fantastic! Pumped up kicks is my favourite song so far this year and to hear it live made me well and truly a happy bunny.

Amongst many silent discos and my screaming over SOAD and yes … S Club 7, the tiredness kicked in and I knew I had to sleep as Green Day were playing in just a few hours (by this time it was the ungodly hour of 4:30 am). Sleep seemed lost amongst the beautiful 5 hours I had which left me with stingy eye but who gave a crap? Not me, because I knew that the beautiful people that make up Green Day would be playing at 11 (hopefully they could take my mind off the hangover and terrible free breakfast on “offer”). They were amazing and I may have lost my voice a little but that was fine because I knew everyone had a great time and the atmosphere was insane.

I also managed to see Young Guns, missing their gorgeous faces due to my drunk eyes wandering and singing, probably, into someone’s ears rather than towards the stage. Kasabian were killing it on main stage and surprisingly I knew more songs than I thought, which was good (this is also where I hugged a guy in a monkey suit and someone with a fake baby).

My highlight of the Saturday had to be my friend drinking a sort of “Potion” which consisted of bacon, sausage, grass, vodka and whatever else. He did it, was very wasted, fell over and did the worm on the walkway (frightening the poor girls walking past who he called “sexy”). Adding to the mean things we made him do (he was much obliged) we drew on his face and he looked like a tramp gone wrong. We then watched Enter Shikari (who were amazing as always) and people actually created a circle around him from fear of his look. Call us mean but he laughed it off and the images and videos have to be the funniest thing I have ever laid my eyes on!

Another silent disco later and Mr Hangover was back (love him) and here it was, the best day ever in the world, Foo Fighters day! I woke up early and prepared for a long day of waiting for my hero’s. The sun was shining and I was too excited to even drink anything because I remembered that Bullet were playing and the last time I saw them was majorly along ago … the young teen rocker feelings came back. I sang every single word and got dust in certain places but everyone was dirty and smelt anyway so my additional grossness probably wasn’t the main issue (it was the guy who thought the main arena was a loo; I hope he knows what a shower is).

All Time Low and The Black Keys were amazing and I could not even breathe as I knew I would be seeing The Foo’s so soon. After waiting for, what felt like an eternity, they came out and yes … I did cry a little. It was the best show of the weekend (obviously) and I was so happy to be there seeing them once again. A few more tear’s later and I calmed down and got very sweaty indeed and was ready to hit they hay.

I always forget how tiring these festivals get but I would do this year’s over and over again!

BROKEN LINKS release new video ‘We’re All Paranoid’ online and give single away for FREE!

Playing industrial rock with under-currents of post-punk and new wave, Southampton alt-rock three piece, BROKEN LINKS, are as melodic and hook laden as they are dark and haunting. Atmospheric guitars, melancholic vocals and electronic soundscapes form a musical vehicle for psychoanalytical and emotionally complex lyrical themes, resulting in a dark and powerful aural experience.

These guys have such a great sound, very much a rock version of the likes of any decent 80’s band (Insert depeche mode, rick astley, human league or spandau ballet even!!) which is no mean feat to make any of those guys cool in the rock world!

The new single “We’re All Paranoid” is taken from their upcoming album “Disasters: Ways To Leave a Scene”, set for release this Autumn via Devil Theory Records, and is available to download for FREE from the band’s bandcamp. The band have also released the cinematic accompanying video online, which tells the story of a dying man watching his life flash before him in the aftermath of a car smash-up.

Check it out the video here

Originally taking influence from an array of acts ranging from Joy Division, Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails to Manic Street Preachers and Bush, BROKEN LINKS have evolved a sound that’s very unique to themselves and unlike anyone on the scene today. Mark Lawrence (vocals / guitar), Lewis Betteridge (bass) and Phil Boulter (drums), have been slowly but surely building a strong loyal fanbase on their own steam following the release of three self release EPs, and playing shows with the likes of British Sea Power, The Boxer Rebellion, InMe, My Vitriol, and The Xcerts in the UK, Germany, and Italy.

Band Of Horses - Mirage Rock [Review]

Band of Horses has confirmed that its fourth album, Mirage Rock (Brown/Columbia), will be released on Monday 17th September.

The follow-up to 2010’s Grammy-nominated Infinite Arms, Mirage Rock is the first Band of Horses record to be produced by Glyn Johns, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year in recognition of his work with The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Faces, Eric Clapton and too many others to list. Recorded at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, Mirage Rock is arguably Band of Horses’ most cohesive and accomplished set of compositions and performances to date.

The album is a solid collection of good old fashioned rock tunes. Songs of note are definitely Knock Knock which has great harmonies and solid guitar work, the melodic and amazing Slow Cruel Hands which is pure acoustic heaven and Feud a commanding Kings of Leon-esque track.

All in all the album wins on so many varied genre splitting ways. The cool crisp summer sound of the album strikes a great balance with the crunching commanding guitar and drums on other tracks. It has a decade spanning feel to it as well. These songs wouldn’t sound out of place in the 70’s or 90’s let alone now. The album is beautifully produced by Glyn Johns and is one to be proud of!

Enter Shikari post teaser video for December tour

Tickets wen’t on general sale today for ENTER SHIKARI’s ‘A Flash Flood Of Christmas’ December 2012 headline UK tour.

Following a summer of high-profile festival slots across Europe, including mainstage appearances at the likes of Rock Am Ring / Rock Im Park (Germany), T In The Park (Scotland), Frequency (Austria), Pukkelpop (Belgium) and not forgetting Reading / Leeds (UK) where the band played their biggest festival spot of their career thus far, the band will return to Australia for headline dates and then the USA for 6 weeks, before rounding off 2012 with a brace of Christmas shows.

Special guests for the all the dates are Toronto, Canada’s CANCER BATS and Brighton’s ENGINE-EARZ EXPERIMENT.

Tour teaser video - [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEpUB-jJBZg[/youtube]

Enter Shikari Christmas events have become somewhat the proverbial ‘stuff of legend’ over recent years (with the 2010 event having also been immortalised on the band’s ‘Live From Planet Earth’ DVD  / CD set from last year), so the decision was made to this year take the show out to the rest of the country, rather than dragging the rest of the country down to Hertfordshire.
These dates are Enter Shikari’s first proper UK headline dates since a sold-out short run in March which culminated in a packed and triumphant  show at London’s 5000 capacity Hammersmith Apollo.

The dates are :

DECEMBER 2012
THUR 6th     MANCHESTER - RITZ
FRI 7th     MANCHESTER - RITZ
SUN 9th     NEWCASTLE - ACADEMY
MON 10th     GLASGOW - BARROWLANDS
TUE 11th     GLASGOW - BARROWLANDS
FRI 14th    BIRMINGHAM - INSTITUTE
SAT 15th     BIRMINGHAM - INSTITUTE
SUN 16th     LONDON - ROUNDHOUSE
MON 17th     LONDON - ROUNDHOUSE
WED 19th     NORWICH - UEA
THU 20th     NORWICH - UEA

Vocalist / electronicist Rou Reynolds had this to say on the subject of the tour :

“WIth the last set of UK shows being the biggest ones we’d done so far, there was expectation and pressure on us from some directions to move up into bigger rooms for this tour, as the ‘media perception’ of looking like you can play an arena (even with half of it curtained off) is apparently supposed to be of some worth. But when you factor in the basic facts of charging fans higher ticket prices so they can watch you from further away from the stage, and be charged £6 a pint into the bargain, it starts to feel like quite a cost just to be able to limply say “we played Wembley”, so we made the choice of actually going smaller for this tour and doing double nights instead.

It will be nice to be able to spend some time in the cities too. Having chance to lie in, then walk around a bit and do some Christmas shopping will be a welcome luxury (not a lot of room to spend time relaxing anywhere when you spend 9 months a year in a tour bus). Maybe we’ll throw a couple of after-shows in in some places too, as me and Rob love an opportunity for some post-show DJ action when we don’t have to travel afterwards.

Playing with artists like Cancer Bats and Engine-Earz as openers will be great too. Both of them are amazing and each brings something completely different to the show, and we’d like to think it will be giving the fans the chance to experience a really exciting and musically diverse bill”.

Soldierfield - Bury The Ones We Love

The release date for Manchester rockers Soldierfield’s debut EP is now confirmed for 29th October 2012.

Soldierfield formed in late 2011 with the aim of putting a bomb under the contemporary metal scene. Their debut EP ‘Bury The Ones We Love’ features 5 tracks showcasing the band’s blueprint of melody, harmony and hooks over an apocalyptic soundtrack of energy-fuelled guitars and warzone drums.

Drawing on influences from across the rock and metal spectrum, Soldierfield released an early demo track at the turn of 2012 before recording the EP with producer Steve Wray (BLAZE, Rise To Addiction) at The Cell in Bradford during May/June 2012. Based on that one track, industry insiders are already whispering about Soldierfield as being ‘one to watch’.

Led from the front by a highly charged vocal performance from Leigh Oates (Order Of Voices, Rise To Addiction) and armed to the teeth with the wall of guitars attitude of Andy Trott (Swampdiva), Soldierfield are set to take the metal scene by force with plans already in place for a full-length release in early 2013.

Over the next few weeks, Soldierfield will release a series of previews from the EP – check out the previews here http://www.soldierfieldband.co.uk/music.php

Foo Fighters Reading 2012 [Review]

Foo Fighters Reading 2012 [Review]

The time had finally arrived and that time was going to be spectacular. The mighty Foo’s were about to take to the main stage at Reading and the main arena area grabbed a huge crowd that went all the way back to the exit areas.

Who cared who else was playing because these guys were doing, what was, their last show of their small summer tour and it was going to be a special goodbye for a while (very sad face).

They came out to huge roars and to many screaming at their hero’s, playing all their amazing songs but even those that were not expected by the fans. Dave’s dedication to his children had some crying, some really overwhelmed and some just more in love with him. Then came the singing to his mother and another dedication of These Days to Kurt his “dear friend” which did bring some tears to our eyes.

They bigged up each other and made a big fuss of taking in the crowds screams with Dave’s classic stare to the crowd, in ore of everything. He is starting to look more and more like God and probably is him in human form. Taylor mentioned his greatness and called Dave the “greatest musicial of his/our time” and who is to disagree?

It was a great show and ending with Everlong was the cherry on top of everything ever and the two and a half hour set could have been just that little bit longer, just because we can never get bored of the Foo’s.

What a great lead up to a wonderful finale which shows that Reading 2012 was one of its best yet!
