CRADLE OF FILTH – NEW ALBUM ‘THE MANTICORE & OTHER HORRORS’ COMING THIS HALLOWE’EN

UK extreme metallers Cradle of Filth are set to release their new masterwork ‘The Manticore & other Horrors’ this Hallowe’en on Peaceville Records.

The title of this, Cradle Of Filth’s tenth studio full-length, can be likened to a bestiary, a collection of stories on Monsters; personal demons, Chimeras, literary fiends and world-enslaving entities to blame but a few, Manticore being the ravening title track. It is a song about a beautiful mythological horror that comes to be feared as the disfigurehead of foreign occupation in the Indian provinces.

The songs Illicitus and Pallid Reflection bare the sweet ingredients of vampirism and lycanthropy; the wicked For Your Vulgar Delectation and Frost On her Pillow are woven perversely into grim fairytales, whilst classic, monumental tracks like The Abhorrent and Siding With The Titans both extol tentacular Lovecraftian values.

The album itself possesses an altogether new atmosphere for the band, incorporating a heavier, faster NWOBBM punk vibe that is both current and cruel, blended with ornate orchestration and the quirky immediateness of 2000’s Midian opus.

Recorded in eight  weeks at both Springvale and Grindstone studios (where it was also mixed by Scott Atkins), Suffolk, the album is testament to the longevity of The ‘Filth, as not only does it reek of Cradle’s (feared or revered) brand of delicious metal vamperotica, but this thoroughly modern album places the band firmly in fresh killing fields anew.

Singer Dani Filth had this to say on the new album:

‘This is our tenth commandment in metal. We have diversified and kept alive the spirit of this band and breathed it into something that I can proudly say, slays like an absolute motherf**ker. The Manticore is coming… Long live the filth!’

Cradle of Filth is also set to spread their darkness upon European lands with a tour throughout November & December.

My Reading Festival 2012 Experience

Despite my aching back from “too much alcohol in back pack” pain, I somehow set up my tent with a friend and beat the boys by a mile (yes!)

The drinking commenced and the days longed out until the music began and there it was before I knew it, Friday! I was super excited to get into the arena and start having my ciders and using nice toilets … oh and the music. I feasted my eyes upon The Blackout, You Me at Six, Paramore and the wonderful Foster the People and The Maccabees who were fantastic! Pumped up kicks is my favourite song so far this year and to hear it live made me well and truly a happy bunny.

Amongst many silent discos and my screaming over SOAD and yes … S Club 7, the tiredness kicked in and I knew I had to sleep as Green Day were playing in just a few hours (by this time it was the ungodly hour of 4:30 am). Sleep seemed lost amongst the beautiful 5 hours I had which left me with stingy eye but who gave a crap? Not me, because I knew that the beautiful people that make up Green Day would be playing at 11 (hopefully they could take my mind off the hangover and terrible free breakfast on “offer”). They were amazing and I may have lost my voice a little but that was fine because I knew everyone had a great time and the atmosphere was insane.

I also managed to see Young Guns, missing their gorgeous faces due to my drunk eyes wandering and singing, probably, into someone’s ears rather than towards the stage. Kasabian were killing it on main stage and surprisingly I knew more songs than I thought, which was good (this is also where I hugged a guy in a monkey suit and someone with a fake baby).

My highlight of the Saturday had to be my friend drinking a sort of “Potion” which consisted of bacon, sausage, grass, vodka and whatever else. He did it, was very wasted, fell over and did the worm on the walkway (frightening the poor girls walking past who he called “sexy”). Adding to the mean things we made him do (he was much obliged) we drew on his face and he looked like a tramp gone wrong. We then watched Enter Shikari (who were amazing as always) and people actually created a circle around him from fear of his look. Call us mean but he laughed it off and the images and videos have to be the funniest thing I have ever laid my eyes on!

Another silent disco later and Mr Hangover was back (love him) and here it was, the best day ever in the world, Foo Fighters day! I woke up early and prepared for a long day of waiting for my hero’s. The sun was shining and I was too excited to even drink anything because I remembered that Bullet were playing and the last time I saw them was majorly along ago … the young teen rocker feelings came back. I sang every single word and got dust in certain places but everyone was dirty and smelt anyway so my additional grossness probably wasn’t the main issue (it was the guy who thought the main arena was a loo; I hope he knows what a shower is).

All Time Low and The Black Keys were amazing and I could not even breathe as I knew I would be seeing The Foo’s so soon. After waiting for, what felt like an eternity, they came out and yes … I did cry a little. It was the best show of the weekend (obviously) and I was so happy to be there seeing them once again. A few more tear’s later and I calmed down and got very sweaty indeed and was ready to hit they hay.

I always forget how tiring these festivals get but I would do this year’s over and over again!

BROKEN LINKS release new video ‘We’re All Paranoid’ online and give single away for FREE!

Playing industrial rock with under-currents of post-punk and new wave, Southampton alt-rock three piece, BROKEN LINKS, are as melodic and hook laden as they are dark and haunting. Atmospheric guitars, melancholic vocals and electronic soundscapes form a musical vehicle for psychoanalytical and emotionally complex lyrical themes, resulting in a dark and powerful aural experience.

These guys have such a great sound, very much a rock version of the likes of any decent 80’s band (Insert depeche mode, rick astley, human league or spandau ballet even!!) which is no mean feat to make any of those guys cool in the rock world!

The new single “We’re All Paranoid” is taken from their upcoming album “Disasters: Ways To Leave a Scene”, set for release this Autumn via Devil Theory Records, and is available to download for FREE from the band’s bandcamp. The band have also released the cinematic accompanying video online, which tells the story of a dying man watching his life flash before him in the aftermath of a car smash-up.

Check it out the video here

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pzEq5aewA0[/youtube]

Originally taking influence from an array of acts ranging from Joy Division, Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails to Manic Street Preachers and Bush, BROKEN LINKS have evolved a sound that’s very unique to themselves and unlike anyone on the scene today. Mark Lawrence (vocals / guitar), Lewis Betteridge (bass) and Phil Boulter (drums), have been slowly but surely building a strong loyal fanbase on their own steam following the release of three self release EPs, and playing shows with the likes of British Sea Power, The Boxer Rebellion, InMe, My Vitriol, and The Xcerts in the UK, Germany, and Italy.

Band Of Horses - Mirage Rock [Review]

Band of Horses has confirmed that its fourth album, Mirage Rock (Brown/Columbia), will be released on Monday 17th September.

The follow-up to 2010’s Grammy-nominated Infinite Arms, Mirage Rock is the first Band of Horses record to be produced by Glyn Johns, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year in recognition of his work with The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Faces, Eric Clapton and too many others to list. Recorded at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, Mirage Rock is arguably Band of Horses’ most cohesive and accomplished set of compositions and performances to date.

The album is a solid collection of good old fashioned rock tunes. Songs of note are definitely Knock Knock which has great harmonies and solid guitar work, the melodic and amazing Slow Cruel Hands which is pure acoustic heaven and Feud a commanding Kings of Leon-esque track.

All in all the album wins on so many varied genre splitting ways. The cool crisp summer sound of the album strikes a great balance with the crunching commanding guitar and drums on other tracks. It has a decade spanning feel to it as well. These songs wouldn’t sound out of place in the 70’s or 90’s let alone now. The album is beautifully produced by Glyn Johns and is one to be proud of!

“Knock Knock” video: [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sh8OTO4wSMs[/youtube]

“Knock Knock” on soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/bandofhorses/knock-knock

Definitely an 8.5-9 out of 10 album

Words: Dave Massen

The tracklisting for Mirage Rock is:

Knock Knock

How To Live

Slow Cruel Hands of Time

A Little Biblical

Shut-In Tourist

Dumpster World

Electric Music

Everything’s Gonna Be Undone

Feud

Long Vows

Heartbreak on the 101

DEAF HAVANA – POST MINI-DOCUMENTARY ABOUT FOOLS AND WORTHLESS LIARS DELUXE EDITION

Following last week’s announcement that Deaf Havana will be re-releasing their critically acclaimed album ‘Fools and Worthless Liars’ with a bonus CD of alternative versions to the records original tracks, the band have made an incredible mini documentary offering an insight into their inspiration for the deluxe edition.

Directed by Daniel Broadley, the 20 minute video feature sees frontman James Veck-Gilodi and bassist Lee Wilson explaining what fueled the re-release of Fools and Worthless Liars and discussing the recording process.

You can watch the documentary here -

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5zoPjfmbCw[/youtube]

Released on November 7th 2011, Fools and Worthless Liars was an instant success, occupying the #1 slot in the UK Rock album chart and posting some very impressive numbers.

“It just all came as a surprise” says James, “I wrote this record fairly quickly with Tom, it is a really personal record and I didn’t even know if anyone was going to get it”.

After four playlisted radio singles, a tour that sold out in just two months and another on the verge of selling out including the infamous Shepherds Bush Empire in London, Deaf Havana have cemented their spot as one of the most exciting, refreshing and honest UK rock bands out there.  With tours scheduled in Japan, U.S.A and Australia, Fools and Worthless Liars has struck a chord around the world.

October 22nd see’s the re-release of the album following their gigantic performances on the main stage at Reading and Leeds this August.

Hunstanton Pier will be the next single to be released from the original ‘Fools & Worthless Liars’ album, on 24th September. You can watch the fantastic new video here -

Enter Shikari post teaser video for December tour

Tickets wen’t on general sale today for ENTER SHIKARI’s ‘A Flash Flood Of Christmas’ December 2012 headline UK tour.

Following a summer of high-profile festival slots across Europe, including mainstage appearances at the likes of Rock Am Ring / Rock Im Park (Germany), T In The Park (Scotland), Frequency (Austria), Pukkelpop (Belgium) and not forgetting Reading / Leeds (UK) where the band played their biggest festival spot of their career thus far, the band will return to Australia for headline dates and then the USA for 6 weeks, before rounding off 2012 with a brace of Christmas shows.

Special guests for the all the dates are Toronto, Canada’s CANCER BATS and Brighton’s ENGINE-EARZ EXPERIMENT.

Tour teaser video - [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEpUB-jJBZg[/youtube]

Enter Shikari Christmas events have become somewhat the proverbial ‘stuff of legend’ over recent years (with the 2010 event having also been immortalised on the band’s ‘Live From Planet Earth’ DVD  / CD set from last year), so the decision was made to this year take the show out to the rest of the country, rather than dragging the rest of the country down to Hertfordshire.
These dates are Enter Shikari’s first proper UK headline dates since a sold-out short run in March which culminated in a packed and triumphant  show at London’s 5000 capacity Hammersmith Apollo.

The dates are :

DECEMBER 2012
THUR 6th     MANCHESTER - RITZ
FRI 7th     MANCHESTER - RITZ
SUN 9th     NEWCASTLE - ACADEMY
MON 10th     GLASGOW - BARROWLANDS
TUE 11th     GLASGOW - BARROWLANDS
FRI 14th    BIRMINGHAM - INSTITUTE
SAT 15th     BIRMINGHAM - INSTITUTE
SUN 16th     LONDON - ROUNDHOUSE
MON 17th     LONDON - ROUNDHOUSE
WED 19th     NORWICH - UEA
THU 20th     NORWICH - UEA

Vocalist / electronicist Rou Reynolds had this to say on the subject of the tour :

“WIth the last set of UK shows being the biggest ones we’d done so far, there was expectation and pressure on us from some directions to move up into bigger rooms for this tour, as the ‘media perception’ of looking like you can play an arena (even with half of it curtained off) is apparently supposed to be of some worth. But when you factor in the basic facts of charging fans higher ticket prices so they can watch you from further away from the stage, and be charged £6 a pint into the bargain, it starts to feel like quite a cost just to be able to limply say “we played Wembley”, so we made the choice of actually going smaller for this tour and doing double nights instead.

It will be nice to be able to spend some time in the cities too. Having chance to lie in, then walk around a bit and do some Christmas shopping will be a welcome luxury (not a lot of room to spend time relaxing anywhere when you spend 9 months a year in a tour bus). Maybe we’ll throw a couple of after-shows in in some places too, as me and Rob love an opportunity for some post-show DJ action when we don’t have to travel afterwards.

Playing with artists like Cancer Bats and Engine-Earz as openers will be great too. Both of them are amazing and each brings something completely different to the show, and we’d like to think it will be giving the fans the chance to experience a really exciting and musically diverse bill”.

Soldierfield - Bury The Ones We Love

The release date for Manchester rockers Soldierfield’s debut EP is now confirmed for 29th October 2012.

Soldierfield formed in late 2011 with the aim of putting a bomb under the contemporary metal scene. Their debut EP ‘Bury The Ones We Love’ features 5 tracks showcasing the band’s blueprint of melody, harmony and hooks over an apocalyptic soundtrack of energy-fuelled guitars and warzone drums.

Drawing on influences from across the rock and metal spectrum, Soldierfield released an early demo track at the turn of 2012 before recording the EP with producer Steve Wray (BLAZE, Rise To Addiction) at The Cell in Bradford during May/June 2012. Based on that one track, industry insiders are already whispering about Soldierfield as being ‘one to watch’.

Led from the front by a highly charged vocal performance from Leigh Oates (Order Of Voices, Rise To Addiction) and armed to the teeth with the wall of guitars attitude of Andy Trott (Swampdiva), Soldierfield are set to take the metal scene by force with plans already in place for a full-length release in early 2013.

Over the next few weeks, Soldierfield will release a series of previews from the EP – check out the previews here http://www.soldierfieldband.co.uk/music.php

Foo Fighters Reading 2012 [Review]

Foo Fighters Reading 2012 [Review]

The time had finally arrived and that time was going to be spectacular. The mighty Foo’s were about to take to the main stage at Reading and the main arena area grabbed a huge crowd that went all the way back to the exit areas.

Who cared who else was playing because these guys were doing, what was, their last show of their small summer tour and it was going to be a special goodbye for a while (very sad face).

They came out to huge roars and to many screaming at their hero’s, playing all their amazing songs but even those that were not expected by the fans. Dave’s dedication to his children had some crying, some really overwhelmed and some just more in love with him. Then came the singing to his mother and another dedication of These Days to Kurt his “dear friend” which did bring some tears to our eyes.

They bigged up each other and made a big fuss of taking in the crowds screams with Dave’s classic stare to the crowd, in ore of everything. He is starting to look more and more like God and probably is him in human form. Taylor mentioned his greatness and called Dave the “greatest musicial of his/our time” and who is to disagree?

It was a great show and ending with Everlong was the cherry on top of everything ever and the two and a half hour set could have been just that little bit longer, just because we can never get bored of the Foo’s.

What a great lead up to a wonderful finale which shows that Reading 2012 was one of its best yet!

Bullet For My Valentine, Reading Festival 2012 [Review]

This was definitely going to be a highlight of the weekend. Bullet seemed to have vanished off the face of the Earth for a while so it was going to be interesting to see what their set was going to be like.

Out they came with proud looks on their faces, overwhelmed by the amounts of people that were watching them. They still had it and this seemed to make them very happy.

We were treated by tunes such as Tears Don’t Fall, All These Things and 4 Words to Choke Upon and I think the BFMV boys got the best mosh pits of the day (with the addition of lots of dust).

We did hear some of the songs from their Fever album, a completely different turn for the Welsh lads, getting a mixed reception and … well … not as half as good as their older stuff. It was clear everyone was there for the oldies but that isn’t to say that we weren’t singing along and doing the occasional head bang to the music.

They sounded great and it was amazing to hear those Bullet riffs, which we all love, once again. It was a great performance, despite the few poo songs, and we had a good time in the sun, dust and around cider.

We love the boys and hope to see them again soon, please?

All Time Low - Reading 2012 [Review]

All Time Low are no strangers to festivals in England, so when we heard that they were playing the main stage on the big Sunday at Reading (for a second time), we knew it would be a good time.

Their fun loving music that involves various sexual references, made by Jack Barakat who seems to just love “dry handjobs” and all that jazz, make their presence on stage just that little bit more funny.

They played the classics such as Coffee Shop Soundtrack, Jasey Rae and even covered Dammit by Blink which is where things got interesting. Dust was flying through the air, into our ears and other places, but who cared? This was a moment and one to remember. To be fair to the boys, they covered the song very well and raised the bar majorly.

They sounded great and never fail to put a smile on people’s faces but it seemed as though their set was missing something. Maybe they should take a break before coming back so that they can give us something even more spectacular? Seeing as they seemed pretty casual about playing.

Obviously the best song was Dear Maria but that’s a given right? They were a great addition to a wonderful weekend and always a wonder to watch and review! Major love for ATL.

Gallows - Outsider Art [Behind the scenes]

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPc1LDpMUKI[/youtube]

Set for release on September 10th through the band’s own label Venn Records (in partnership with [PIAS] Recordings), Gallows third and self-titled album proves that their reputation as the UK’s most notorious and exciting punk band will not be changing any time soon.  Recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by long-term friends Thomas Mitchener and Steve Sears at Broadfields Studio in Watford in May this year, it is, say the band “our statement of intent, our laugh in the face of those who said Gallows were done when in reality we’re just warming up,” they continue. “We couldn’t feel more vindicated and proud.”

One of the album’s many stand-out tracks ‘Outsider Art’ will be released as a single on October 1st. “I’ve spent the last 10 years of my life getting lost on the road,” explains front man Wade. “There’s some dark stories to tell.
‘Outsider Art’ is just one of them.”

A classic Gallows track through and through, it retains all of the bands power and aggression but at the same time leaves their ability to pen a distinctive melody intact.

A special edition version of the album will also include a DVD documentary that provides a fascinating and often hilarious insight into the world of Gallows over the last few months.

Gallows can now also announce that they will play a special record release launch at The Fighting Cocks  in Kingston on September 9th and have added a second night to The Underworld in Camden, now playing on both the 19th and 20th of October. Suffice to say, all of these shows will be hot, sweaty and utterly insane.

Billy Talent - Reading 2012 review

Billy Talent – Reading Festival 2012

These boys have already played Download this year and smashed it (especially when they brought out Cancer Bats) so Reading had a lot to live up to, especially seeing as Green Day had already stolen the fantastic sticker from EVERYONE.

As always, the good songs were played and the crowd were insane but it seemed like a slightly half-hearted performance and we have definitely seen better. Despite the less energetic side of BT, Red Flag was amazing and the dancing did commence (badly but still).

The atmosphere surrounding the NME tent was pretty casual with many drunkards sitting outside watching the screen but the band definitely had a good sized audience to sing back Devil at the top of their lungs!

It is a shame that this wasn’t their best performance, despite the sound being great, as the weekend was hard to fault at all but we will always love Billy and hope to see them rocking in our land again soon!

Green Day - Reading 2012 [Review]

Green Day Reading 2012 Review

When looking at the line-up and seeing that there was a band under the name of “Post War Glamour Girls” with no time given as to when they were playing, we could only wonder as to who this was and of course Green Day was always going to come to mind.

Excitement brewed for days pre to the festival, but it was announced when the secret came out that they were actually going to be doing a set, on the NME stage, at 11am on the Saturday morning of Reading (most of you campers were probably planning on recovering) which was amazing indeed.

In a matter of seconds the tent became the busiest it had ever been in the history of Reading and security was doubling by the minute. For those lucky enough to get a glimpse of the boys, it was such a blinder of a show and was just so exciting, even that early after a night of heavy drinking. The crowd was spilling outside of the venue and some were even watching it from the screens near the stage or by the main stage, so it is definite that they are still and will always be as well-loved as ever before.

The tunes were flowing and not one person was standing still which is what we like to see. Billy loved a bit of the usual “WOO”, “YEAH”, “OHH” and “OO OOH”s (believed to have been started by H from STEPS … yet to be finalised) that always seem to get people involved, but he was clearly on the beers as it happened quite a bit too much, but posed as quite a funny side to the show indeed.

He also didn’t seem to “give a fuck” about the length of the set as he wanted to go on and on, with fans booing security who tried to control his rock star ways, but this was great because we got to see even more of their amazing music.

American Idiot (yes, very typical) was our favourite and really showed how the Saturday had a lot to live up to already! Green Day were well and truly one of the best things to happen to the weekend and due to our excitement, the band themselves stated how their appearance was the “worst kept secret” … But aren’t we glad it happened!

JUDAS PRIEST - SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE SPECIAL 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Since 1974, Judas Priest has been one of heavy metal’s most successful bands, issuing such all-time classic albums as BRITISH STEEL in 1980, SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE in 1982,  DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH in 1984and PAINKILLER in 1990 and such arena-rocking anthems as Breaking the Law, Living After Midnight, and You’ve Got Another Thing Coming. However, Priest’s influence goes far beyond their music - they were the first metal band to embrace the ‘leather and studs look’, a fashion that has since become synonymous with the musical genre. Additionally, Rob Halford’s powerful four-and-a-half octave vocal range and the twin guitar harmonies of Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing have been emulated by countless metal bands in Priest’s wake.

A vital part of rock history - Judas Priest have spent 4 decades writing classic songs and putting on spectacular live shows. During this period, the band has sold in excess of 30 million albums, and played to countless millions of fans across the globe.  In 1982, they released their eighth studio album SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE, containing their hugely successful You’ve Got Another Thing Coming, the single which proved that metal could get mainstream radio airplay in the US – leading the way for a whole generation of new metal bands.

To celebrate the 30 year anniversary of this epic release, Judas Priest present you with SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE – SPECIAL 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION (Release date: 3rd September 2012), containing not only the re-mastered original album plus bonus tracks, but also a live DVD from the 1983 US Festival show, filmed in San Bernadino CA on 29th May 1983.

The US Festival was intended to be a celebration of evolving technologies; a marriage of music, computers, television and people - organized by Steve Wozniak formerly of Apple Computer.

The SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE – SPECIAL 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION Live DVD was filmed at the second, and what turned out to be last, US Festival in 1983. The Sunday was the Heavy Metal Day -“It was the day new wave died and rock n’ roll took over”. It set the single-day concert attendance record for the US with an estimated 375,000 people.

Judas Priest have this to say about this memorable day in metal history:

‘On the day that we performed, we flew in by helicopter - and the first sight we saw was that of thousands of abandoned cars piled up around the crests of the hills that surrounded the festival arena, which as we went over took our breath away. For there below us, spread throughout hundreds of acres was a massive crowd – over three hundred thousand strong! The summer heat was raging and combined with the hot Santa Ana winds made for a scorching metal furnace on stage.’

EXUMER premiere first official video "Fire & Damnation"

EXUMER have premiered the video to the title track of their most recent album, Fire & Damnation. It’s the band’s first ever official video clip in their 27 year-long history and was entirely filmed and edited in Sao Paulo, Brazil, during EXUMER’s South American Damnation tour earlier this summer.

The footage combines the band’s explosive live performance with the harsh conditions prevalent in some of Sao Paulo’s less affluent and privileged neighborhoods, making it a fast pace assault on the viewer’s senses.

Mem V. Stein said “The idea behind the clip was to showcase the band’s intense relationship with our Brazilian fans in a live situation and the disparities that are still present in one of the fastest growing economies in the world. We chose the song Fire & Damnation because its vibe is quite universal, where you don’t have look to religion or elsewhere to find damnation here on earth. Ultimately, the clip is a “thank you” to all our fans in South America and around the world as we always try to relate to them in an honest and very real way.”

Evilyn - War Is Now [Review]

When a band comes along, raw in talent and green in experience, you’d be forgiven into thinking, ‘shelve this one to watch in a few years time’… How wrong you would be to do so with London band Evilyn. Having just got back, hot off the trail from Leeds for the Metal Fringe 2012 festival to great acclaim, the boys have finished tracking their new single and are ready for you to enjoy it!

Here’s the track

The song starts off with an amazing guitar riff and is joined by strong drumming. The lyrics have an almost Ozzy feel to them from singer Ryder, but throw in a sound unique to the band. The chorus of interlinked lyrics and crowd encouraging chants really add to the song.

The lyrics are clever and show real maturity and are somewhat targeted in its views on war and its futility. So what do we think of it impartially and objectively as a track? The vocals and the guitar could use a dose of compression, and the levels could do with some extra tweaking as the vocals get lost sometimes. The guitars could be much punchier, however is purely technical improvements to make the song crash through peoples ears, rather than provide a background soundtrack.

The reason we mention these points is that the track is awesome and the band deserve to be shown in a great light, and the bedroom recording hasn’t quite produced this song in its best light!

Overall, this is one to watch now and not wait a few years to hear about them in other magazines, listen up now and remember who told you about them first… This is one band who already have people wanting to sign them!

So, what would we give it out of ten? Seven… But this band are so close to nines right now, let’s hope they get the resources to show it!

Leeds Festival 2012 - Saturday [Review]

Day two of Leeds was set to be a big one, we had Neil Short there all weekend… Talk about fish out of water, with hipsters surrounding him on all sides!
Read on - this will give you the true festival experience… Well, except for one thing.
So… Moving on from the day before and the total disappointment of not getting fucked up in a field of mud, I got my shit together to head back to Leeds Festival. Ok. Let me explain something. I did not camp there, simply because over the past 3 weekends I have been at a festival.. Camping. I have had enough of camping and the one life rule that stopped me staying was… DON’T CAMP AT A FESTIVAL IF YOU WANT TO SLEEP. I’m an even more miserable bugger when I’ve had no sleep, AND I had work to try and do the next day.

So being the sensible kind (and living in Leeds for the first time EVER that came in handy), I opted to stay in the comfort of my own home, enjoy a nice hot shower in the morning (instead of baby wipes), have a nice cup of coffee, then mooch back to festival when it was time to start catching bands again. Clearly, I was there to interview some guys too, but work didn’t officially start until half three – until then, the pissy muddy fields were all MINE. I arrived. No mud. The forecast was telling me that thunder and lightening were going to rain down after three, and from then on, we were expecting a shit load of rain. BRING ON THE MUD!

Again, I seem to digress. I was late (again) but this time a lot earlier than the day before – the fact that I was late was pointed out by Big Dave just as I was stumbling through the gates. So I missed Deaf Havana. The thing is, I don’t know their music or anything (yes, I lead a very sheltered existence) but know they’re a pretty damn fine band. I am gutted I missed them really, and I will blame that second cup of coffee. That I had in the comfort of my own living room and not some sweaty tent. BUT, you know, you have to see the silver lining so to speak, and the fact that I got there in time for Cancer Bats kinda made up for the lapse attitude towards my time keeping..

Now I do like Cancer Bats, in fact I fucking love what they do on a stage, and to be overly biased wouldn’t really give you all an accurate description. Saying that, when they played Sabotage, professionalism and keeping it cool went straight out of the proverbial window, and I was there, screaming, jumping up and down like a roo with a rabbit inserted, and literally convulsing with excitement. I think I may even have dribbled a little bit. Not the kind of thing you need to know about really. Fuck it, you DO need to know that, AND you should check those boys out – here’s a damned link to some good ol’ fashioned ball busting music - http://www.facebook.com/cancerbats .

Coheed and Cambria were on the Main Stage next, and please, don’t think I’m saying they’re shit, they’re probably not, but I refer to the point I made about Friday where I said I wanted to catch a few bands, and others I couldn’t give a shit about. This was one of those occasions. I sought a cold beverage, and the confines of the Lock Up stage to see Star Fucking Hipsters. Stars they are – a punk explosion that will deny you of any coherent marbles in your head after half an hour of intent listening and watching. And still no damn mud…

Now one of the bands I did want to see was Angels And Airwaves – purely to remind myself of why I don’t listen to them, or in fact Blink 182 anymore. Let’s set the record straight, I used to like Blink.. A lot.. Was pretty pissed off when Tom De Longe left them too, and so immediately went to see Plus 44, to remind me of why I liked blink in the first place, and try to forget about the TDL factor. In fact, I was supposed to interview TDL when he came to Leeds, but he cancelled at the last minute – just AFTER I got to the venue and finished shitting myself. So with this in mind, I wanted them to be bad. So bad. AVA hit the stage and I was right in the thick of the crowd, skeptical as hell, but also wary of the fact that if I hurled abuse at TDL (I can hold a grudge for eternity), I’d probably end up with no teeth and very few limbs I could use. And this was just from the girl fans – I’d hate to think what the guys would have done to me.

They opened up the set with a track I knew, and as much as I want to say they sucked, they didn’t. They were absolutely brilliant – they drew more and more of the crowd in. I got them so wrong – they are good at what they do, for sure, and I think Ilan Rubin simply has to be one of the best drummers I have ever seen live. And his hair, Jesus wept, that was a Pantene moment.

This is where I had to step away and try to act all pro and stuff, and get down to business by starting the interviews off. I had four booked in and only managed to catch three of them. The fourth band was stuck in traffic making the run to get on stage. Dammit. Anyways, the three bands that I did manage to speak to were Saves The Day, Bastille, and Every Time I Die, and you can read those interviews right here on Rock Industry. Oh, and there still wasn’t any mud. Or any sign the colossal flood I was expecting.

When the work side of things was finally done, you know, it’s time to party and catch a few bands, right? First up, being as I had spoken to Chris and Arun earlier, I had promised to watch their set, and second up was the fact I had said I’d have a few beers back stage with them afterwards – living the goddamn dream, YEAH! You know they were good as well, which would make the beer session later a lot more bearable. You see, it’s not the music I personally would choose to listen to regularly, but I can see why it appeals to their fans, and their performance on stage was spot on. They clearly belonged (and deservedly so) on stage at Leeds.

As you may have guessed from my initial ramblings, my taste in music is, well, not main stream. I try to avoid it as much as possible if truth be told. I’d rather like what I like and just appreciate that other genres appeal to different people. Still, saying that, whilst in Rome and so on and so forth, you have to give everything a try, don’t you? With the open mindedness being help with Heineken, I ventured over to the main stage to catch Bombay Bicycle Club. Again, really not my cup of tea, but the light show was ace! All jokes aside, they are a talented bunch of guys, and you have to respect what they do.. It’s not an easy job, getting on a stage in front of thousands of people wearing your heart on your sleeve. I almost feel bad saying that, but if I can’t be honest, then there’s no point giving you guys my opinion. You can send hate mail if it makes you feel better.

Paramore were next up on the Main Stage, you can read a review of their performance from Charlotte HERE: http://www.rockindustry.co.uk/paramore-reading-festival-2012-review/5166/

Whilst all that was going on, I made my way back to the Lock Up stage to catch Every Time I Die. You know, the guys have been going since 1988, and they’re still on the scene, showing the other bands how it’s done. They are simply monsters on stage, churning out rib smashing hardcore. For me, this was the one. This was the band I was wanting to see the most… And they didn’t disappoint in any way, shape or form. These guys make your ear drums grow backbones. You like hard as fuck music that’ll melt your eyeballs from the inside of your skull?! Go HERE: http://everytimeidie.net/ - if not, google a picture of a soft kitten: www.google.com (here’s a soft kitten for you)

So finally, to end the Heineken fuelled hardcore rampage I was half contemplating to go on, (every time I see ETID I get PUMPED) I went and caught The Cure. Not for any tropical diseases or anything. The band. You know, Robert Smith? The dude that wears lipstick and the song lullaby? Thing is, they are living legends. Pure and simple. Smith still has the voice, and they were pretty much flawless. For two and a half hours. The end they gave wasn’t for me, as heartfelt as The Foos the night before, there weren’t any pyromaniacs rocking back and forth dribbling and staring at the sky, just a girl laid in a pile of her own sick being all hysterical down her mobile. And still no fucking mud…

New Material From Converge!

There is no doubt that Converge are one of heavy music’s finest, and the good news is, they’re back! Their next album, All We Love We Leave Behind, is set for release on October 8th, along with a deluxe edition that includes a 48 page full-colour hardcover, clothbound book with original art created by front-man Jacob Bannon… Now we KNOW you wanna get your hands on that!

New track ‘Aimless Arrow,’ comes complete with a video directed by talented filmmaker Max Moore that visually expands on the heavy emotional lyrical content that the song carries.  You can watch it below…

For the first time in ages, All We Love We Leave Behind is an album that contains no special guests or collaborations - everything to do with this album, was by Converge. The music, the production, the aesthetics… All of it.
It was recorded and mixed by guitarist Kurt Ballou at his Godcity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts. “There’s no artificial distortion, triggers, or Auto-Tune on this album,” Ballou explains, “it’s all organic, it’s real sounds that capture the way the band performs live.”
“I think we really stepped up our game on this record. The most important thing to this band is that with every album we want to create something that excites us and moves us in some way,” explains Bannon. “There are a lot of subtle nuances on this record are really special to us and we definitely hit those individually on this record.”

Having been credited with giving rise to a genre and influencing countless bands all over the world, Converge have always been the type of band that never fit into one subculture, creating a sound that is entirely their own.  This is probably down to the fact that since their 2001 album Jane Doe, they haven’t had any changes of lineup. They are still the same band that they were when they formed over 21 years ago.

Converge will embark on a European tour in November and December this year. For full list of dates, see further below.

All We Love We Leave Behind Deluxe Track Listing:

The Blackout rock it at Reading 2012

The Blackout Reading Festival Review [Friday]

The Blackout are always a band you know you will have a good time with at any show/festival due to their energy and hilarious personalities, so with them playing the NME stage on the Friday at Reading, things were getting pretty exciting.

Last year they opened up the main stage but there is something special about the NME. It is smaller but the vibes you get from the atmosphere and the bands is always great, with the feel of those intimate shows which can be and mostly are as good as those huge headliners.

The wonderful Welshies started their set with the tune that is STFUppercut, getting everyone moving and in the mood to get a pit going. Other songs on the bill included Save Our Selves, High Tide and This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things which made the feeling of pure happiness take over …. That and it was a super sunny day at Reading (with lots of beer flowing).

Sean and Gavin prove to be a perfect duo and sounded great; giving it everything they had (including the constant jumping and funky moves around the stage). Reading was a great show for these guys and they made the Friday just that little bit more spectacular indeed.

They are always a pleasure to watch and it got u pumped for the rest of the weekend with some other great acts ahead. If you didn’t manage to see their set, make sure you check it out via the BBC 3 website.

Paramore Reading Festival 2012 review

Paramore, Reading 2012 review [Friday]

Paramore is a band that can hardly be faulted when performing big festivals. They filled out the main arena area with many anticipated fans awaiting their appearance.

They came out to huge roars, screams and “woo” sounds which showed how excited these Reading festival go-ers were. Hayley was bright and breezy as usual, with a huge smile on her face and with the great support from her band mates, we knew it was all going to kick off (in a good way of course).

Despite her strange choice in make-up, Hayley looked amazing as always and it was interesting to see the new band line-up this (which is their first time together at this festival). It was sure that they were all nervous but with a crowd that big, who wouldn’t be?

The guitars and drums began to pick up the beat, ready to play the tunes we all love and know and it exemplified exactly why Paramore is always fantastic to watch.

With the constant, famous Hayley headbangs, she got everyone moving along to For A Pessimist and That’s What You Get (a Rock Industry favourite), letting everyone remember why they put up with the mud, dust and bad toilets for 4 or so days.

It was great to see them all so joyful together and it was a shame that the set was not much longer as Decode was belted out with her powerhouse voice that is truly loved and it is sure that if any band could be re-watched over and over then these guys are the ones.

They never disappoint and honestly, should play Reading/Leeds every year because they are well and truly the epitome of fantastic.

Foster The People reading Festival 2012 Review

Foster The People, Reading Review [Friday]

The NME stage became exciting yet again with two brilliant acts closing up the wonderful Friday night, but the one we were looking most forward to was definitely Foster The People.

Despite the crowd becoming more like sardines in a can, the crushing was worth the wait for these guys to come out. They casually walked onto the stage with focused looks on their faces; ready for (what probably was going to be) a wonderful and exciting show for them to play.

They were so energetic and fun to watch with all the best tunes being played like Life On The Nikel, Helena Beat, Miss You + Don’t Stop plus, the amazing Pumped Up Kicks. It was one huge, sweaty party but the only shame of it was that they should have headlined this stage without a doubt! The atmosphere outshined many bands from that day and made you forget who was even playing on the main stage … The Cure who? (kidding …)

It was a little hard to hear Pumped Up Kicks due to the crowd’s slightly amazing voices (maybe with a few more drinks in us they would have been brilliant) but isn’t that what festivals are about? Everyone coming together and singing to some great tunes? It is indeed and FTP was a fabulous pick of this wonderful Friday and it really gave the other days a lot to live up to!

Leeds Festival 2012 - The Friday Experience [Review]

We had people all over Leeds and Reading this weekend…..Our metalhead with bleached hair, Neil Short was doing the rounds for us interview wise at Leeds and this is what he had to say about Friday!

So… Going to Leeds Festival 2012 as a metalhead, an artist from Leeds Fest 2011, and a music journalist? Damn. It seems like it was doomed to fail from the outset, especially as I had checked the weather forecast beforehand and was told it was going to piss down like Sodom and Gomorrah, I even kind of figured my t-shirt tan wasn’t going to get a good seeing to. Break out the festival boots.

Some of the acts, I wanted to see, you know, to brag about to my mates in the pub and tick that one off the list, but then there were some acts that really I couldn’t have give a shit about, and was trying to stay clear of their stages. Thankfully, the boss man ‘Big Dave’ sent me a link to clash finder (this was REALLY fucking useful – www.clashfinder.com ) so I knew exactly where I was wanting to be. Trying to organise myself for a festival and have a plan? Come on, I mean it’s a festival, right? You’re not supposed to plan, or follow any rule of thumb, you’re supposed to end up where ever you end up, pissed in a pile of puke somewhere. Oh no, wait, that was a girl I found on Saturday.

So, yeah, where was I? Running late, which I guess wasn’t the best of starts, but at least I was there, expecting to get fucked up by a sea of mud. I got my pass sorted out, and then totally ended up on a five mile hike around the grounds trying to find the fucking entrance. Why? Because sometimes I lack common sense and reasoning. Let alone read some map that Big Dave had emailed over. Being all manly, I knew I could navigate into the festival no problem, and what seemed like DAYS trekking with all my gear, I finally found the main entrance. MILES FROM WHERE I WANTED TO BE. I had an interview booked with ‘This Is Hell’ at half three, and was trying not to panic about being on time and all that shit, worrying about what to ask, and eventually finding the press office, I texted the tour manager to see where they were at for the interview. Like a pro (not seen any mud yet either). Turns out the guys were in their dressing room at the Lock Up stage, which ended up being a mission of a trek. I get there, all systems go, to be hit with yet another catastrophe; This Is Hell were booted out of their dressing room, but still hanging around back stage. It was cool though, Ryan was on his way to get me for the interview. Eventually, I got to talk to the dude and you know what? You can read what he said here .

With the time being around five when all that was said and done, I was free to sample the Friday night of the festival, get covered in mud and piss and see some pure awesome bands. I managed to catch the last bit of the ‘Good Riddance’ set on the Lock Up stage, which was pretty damn cool. I want their album/s and the chance to see them for a full set. Again, I still saw no mud. The thing is, I was at Leeds Festival last year, and shit, it was knee deep in mud and I didn’t have any boots. Epic fail I know, but I wasn’t thinking right and being naïve. This year I was totally ready for it and established that there wasn’t any there. Yet. Anyways, I digress…

I wonder into the main arena, and saw the Kaiser Chiefs were just starting out, playing to a ‘sort of’ home crowd. I saw these guys when they played at Kirkstall Abbey last year, and I have to be brutally honest, I wasn’t their biggest fan. They played Pinball Wizard. I think the dude from Def Leppard once said, ‘If you’re going to cover a song, either do it exactly the same or change it completely’ or words to that effect, and I interpreted that as, if it’s not bang on, but somewhere in between complete change or bang on, then it would be complete shit. The point I’m trying to make is that the Kaiser Chiefs hit that cover version with everything they had, and they were damn near perfect. They made me want to stay and catch all of their set – and to be fair, even though they really aren’t my cup of tea, they were fucking ace. Jaw-dropingly awesome, if that makes sense. And yes, I just made a word up.

This is where I was at a little bit of a loss. I hear people going on about THE Black Keys, and I guess I could’ve hung around a while and watched them, but I was gagging for something a ‘little’ heavier – maybe a little Turbonegro? Totally not what I expected. I hadn’t heard them before, just heard about them if you catch my drift, and I was expecting something like… Erm… Yeah – totally not what I expected – and that’s where I get to hang my head in shame. I have heard the name flying around for years, but never checked them out. Faux pas. Cool stuff, more punky than the stuff I usually listen to, but they really cool to watch. And kind of scary in appearance.

Next up, someone I had been ACHING to see. Again, not my scene, but Gallows just do it for me. I don’t know what it is, maybe the fucking pure energy on stage, maybe it’s the manic balls out awesome music, maybe it’s all of the above. Now Leeds Festival caters for the masses… when people see the signs for the Lock Up stage with the sign for Dance stage there as well, you must be able to see what comes next. Dancers, ravers, orange girls, and all that crowd generally will wonder into the tent. Then walk away in complete bewilderment as to what they’ve just seen and heard. Yeah. I did giggle away to myself.

Then comes the Main stage headliner.. The Foo Fighters. Holy shit, Dave Grohl is a LEGEND in his own rights, and for me, not only from a fans point of view, I figured that this was a once in a lifetime show. Then again, I had this voice in the back of my mind telling me that I’d have to catch a bit of Less Than Jake on the Lock Up stage. So I figured, give Grohl and the gang a good hour, go see Less Than Jake, and then make it back for the last couple songs. Again, Less Than Jake is not the kind of thing I listen to anymore on a regular basis, but I used to love those guys. Happy, bouncy music, a bit of piss-taking of audience members about their Bieber-esque hair do, giving a security guards bottle of beer whilst declaring he had the rest of the night off – put that all together and you have one kick ass show all round. I had to cut it short though – had to get back to see the Foos finish off. Which they did, with a pyromaniacs wet dream ending. Oh. And Everlong.

This Is Hell - Leeds Festival 2012 [Interview]

So after a nightmare nailing Rick Jimenez from This Is Hell down for a five minute chat, and our wandering aimlessly round the arena until he finally found us, Neil Short had a quick catch up about the bands show philosophy, iPhone journalism (yup, we really talked about iPhones), and his thoughts on Metallica. Everyone in a band was influenced by Metallica at some point, right?

NS – First, you’ll have to excuse me, I think Dictaphones are shit, and didn’t want to carry shit loads of gear around with me, so are you all good to talk into R2D2?

RJ – Yeah, that’s cool. My friend bought this little video camera one time to take stills and videos on this trip, and he ended up using his iPhone the whole time. It’s funny like, the iPhone is such a ridiculous invention, it’s got like everything you will need. Like that voice memo thing..

NS – That’s exactly what I’m using… *Kinda worried face*
RJ – Yeah? I did some entrance music for one of my friends who’s a wrestler, Seth Rollins from NXT, and he said, “ I hate my entrance music, if you can do some copyright free music, I’ll use it.”. So I wrote a couple tracks, and he wanted to include like a sound bite (That’s sample to us guys), and so I asked him to record me something as it would be better than grabbing something off the internet.. He was saying he didn’t know if he could do studios, and I was like, “Dude, use your iPhone.” – Seth questioned whether it would work or not, and I ended up promising that if he used his iPhone, I could run it through the computer, and it’d be fine. It even sounds like a studio.

NS – Holy shit, that’s pretty much what I do when transcribing interviews and stuff! SO, anyways, I want to talk to you about Black Mass. (For those not in the ‘know’ Black mass is their latest album) You released it last year, how’s that all gone for you so far?
RJ – Fanwise, well for the most part. You know, it’s hard, we’re not a record selling band – we never have been and we never will be I don’t think, but you know, first and foremost, when it’s all done, and the record’s done, we’re psyched, when the record comes out we’re just like, oh, here it is and we listen to it on an actual pressed CD. That’s awesome. When we put it on the internet and get a reaction that way, you know, people will come to our show and buy the record, then come the next time and they’re like – the record’s actually good. Everyone always wants you to put out your first record over and over again, and that one is our fourth record.

NS – Yeah, I did notice that.. Have you done anything different with the recording of Black Mass compared with the other three albums?
RJ – Yeah, yeah, you know we recorded in the same place as Weight Of The World, our third record, but it’s a different line up. Sonically it sounds different, musically it’s progressed a bit. You know, when fans stick with us and like what we’re doing and appreciate our progression that’s the BEST. It’s not this overwhelming thing that all of a sudden we have this huge fanbase, but at the same time if somebody sticks with us, that’s cool. It always feels good to read a review if somebody likes it, but that’s not a make or break thing, you know? That’s one persons opinion. Critically the record did well too.

NS – Cool – it’s good to see fans progressing with the band. I hear that you guys also tour extensively, so tell me, what about Leeds Fest, what’s your experience been like so far?
RJ – Well, the sound on stage was very difficult to work with, you know, I’m not going to complain and say it sounded shitty, it was just a little difficult to work with. I couldn’t really hear what anyone else was doing and whether I was on time and stuff, but I carried on playing. I was like, am I playing well? The crowd was a little difficult also, but I think it was a lot of peoples first time seeing us, so we had to kinda give them a kick in the ass. We let loose. We got them to run around in a circle, and got them to do a wall of death. Then they went nuts with us, which is cool, it’s always better when that happens, than we’re trying and everyone’s like, yeah, we’re not that bothered. We’re ok doing the hard work as long as the crowd is responsive with it. You know, it was a little more work than I thought, so long as it pays off and in the end it did. We’re always going to give it our best, I mean, if we’re on a giant stage like this, and there’s only thirty people there, we are gonna try our hardest to get those thirty people psyched. Sometimes it’s not going to happen, but we’re always going to try our best from start to finish.

NS – I was going to say I think Leeds Fest is becoming quite commercial, you know, there’s orange girls walking around, and I was debating whether I was in the right place or not…
RJ – Yeah, we played Reading and Leeds in 2010 and that was a little bit more difficult, we’re just happy to be here.

NS –I totally know what you mean.. So, what are your plans for the rest of the year, after Leeds and Reading?
RJ – We’re going to finish writing a record, you know, this is the third time we’ve been in the UK this year, and we’ve done two tours in the States and a Canadian tour this year, so if something comes up, like hey, do you wanna support this band, then we’ll do it, but as of now we don’t plan to do any extensive touring. We’re going to record the album then straight over to Australia for Sound Wave Festival with fucking Metallica. They’re like my favourite band of all time, they’re amazing.

NS – Come on then, best album from Metallica
RJ – Best Album? …And Justice For All. We were talking about this last night, we were like what’s your favourite five… We all had different favourites, and I always used to be tied with Justice and Kill ‘em All..

NS – I was always fond of Master Of Puppets as well as Justice…
RJ – For me now it’s about Justice and Ride The Lightening. It’s cool! Getting to see Metallica five times for free, it’s crazy, getting to play shows with them, granted it’s festivals, but fuck it, we’re gonna be playing, then we’re gonna go watch Metallica…

NS - Have you ever met the guys?
RJ – No, no. I’d be like, hey, I rip off all my guitar playing from you..

NS – I’m not going to quote you on that…
RJ – No, dude, do. I’m shameless man. Kirk Hammett as far as lead playing, I’m a shameless Kirk Hammett influenced guy..

Pretty much after the revelation that Rick was SO into Hammett (I mean, who isn’t? Really?) the conversation kind of dwindled to childish drivel, pretty much all on my part, so I made my excuses and ran like hell to try and FINALLY watch a band. Oh, and because they are fucking good at what they do, here’s a link to their FaceBook page - http://www.facebook.com/thisishellny

Papa Roach round-up

So recently Jacoby Shaddix had to cancel some gigs due to vocal nodule issues and immediate surgery needed….but this wont stop them from coming to Europe, and in particular, London this winter.
With a 10 year reign of electrifying live performances and over 10 million album sales worldwide, Papa Roach have become the common denominator for some of the most successful rock tours in recent years and has critics worldwide hailing them as “the best live band.”  They are now set to tour Europe in December when, as well as performing a record breaking 8 headline shows in Russia, the band make one of their rare visits to the UK playing London’s Brixton Academy on  December 10th and 11th 2012.  All the shows in Western Europe will be with Stone Sour.

Papa Roach’s 2010 album Time For Annihilation…On the Record and On the Road debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Independent Rock chart, and No 8 in the UK Independent Rock Chart.  The band are now set to release their hotly anticipated sixth studio album “The Connection” on 1st October 2012 on Eleven Seven Music.

Papa Roach release the single Still Swingin’ on 24th Sept - produced by John Feldmann, - you can  hear a snippet of the track and catch some behind-the-scenes footage of the band filming its video in New York City here:

Happy Monday's announce gig dates at the Roundhouse

Wednesday December 19th & Thursday December 20th 2012

7pm - 11pm - The Roundhouse - London - Tickets: £32.50 in advance: www.ticketweb.co.uk

One of the greatest bands of a generation, the one and only Happy Mondays return to the London stage. Across two nights at the historic London Roundhouse, this illustrious band who helped spark the cultural ‘Madchester’ movement will perform tracks from their colossal back catalogue.

Earlier this year The Happy Mondays announced a return to the live stage, reuniting the full original line up for the first time in over 19 years. This led to two sold out night at Brixton Academy and a further 3rd date added. The Roundhouse will give fans a chance to get up close to the band in what is sure to be 2 very special nights in the run up to Christmas.

In 1985 Factory Records band fused a sound that owed as much to northern soul and funk as it did rock and psychedelia. It was however the influence of the house music records beaming in from Chicago that had the most profound effect on the band. In 1990 they released the ‘Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches’ album which collided with the acid house and rave movement that had swept the UK, firmly putting The Happy Mondays on the map as one of the most inspiring bands to come out of England in the early 1990s.

Influentially The Happy Mondays sound can be felt far and wide, with The Stone Roses, Oasis, and The Charlatans all tipping their hats. The Roundhouse shows will no doubt feature the classics ‘Step On’, ‘Kinky Afro’, ‘Hallelujah’ and of course the track that was mirrored by a film of the same name ‘24 Hour Party People’ cementing the bands reputation as one of the most advantageous and colorful of the last 20 years.

JARED FOLLOWILL AND NICK BROWN UNITE AS SMOKE & JACKAL

Columbia Records announce the upcoming release of EP1, the debut EP from Smoke & Jackal.  The six-track collection is out on October 15th.

EP1 marks the first collaboration between Jared Followill (Kings of Leon) and Nick Brown (Mona).  Smoke & Jackal were revealed to the world. A companion video clip for “No Tell” is currently in post-production, with a premiere date to be announced soon. You can listen here http://soundcloud.com/smokejackal/no-tell

Followill and Brown began recording as Smoke & Jackal earlier this year, fuelled by multiple bottles of red wine and a shared fascination with timbre, rhythm, and aural adventure.  They set to work at Brown’s Nashville home studio and before the first evening was through, the duo had crafted both “No Tell” and the stunning psychedelic slow jam, “Fall Around.”  The two musicians immediately understood they had created something special, an evocative and original melding of oceanic rock with bottomless grooves and hypnotic dub textures.  Just over one week later, EP1 was complete.  Defined by Followill’s liquid bass lines and Brown’s soaring and expressive vocals, songs like “Road Side” and the closing “Safe Face” are both ingenious and accessible, their surprising soundscapes counterpointed by indelible melodies and haunting hooks.  Smoke & Jackal’s EP1 is the sound of two talented friends allowing their music to freely go places no one could have anticipated.

“It was all about tone and vibe and what felt right in that moment,” Brown says.  “Not second guessing, just having fun in that moment.”

“Coming together just worked,” says Followill. “I think it’s because we took such an easy approach to it, we didn’t bring any egos to it.  We just talked about each other’s ideas, neither one of us got our feelings hurt.  It just worked.”

The track is chilled and has a great sound to it, we cant wait for the full EP to be released on October 15th

EP1 was produced by Smoke & Jackal, and engineered by Nick Brown.  All songs were written by Smoke & Jackal

The Dollyrots - The Dollyrots [Review]

The Dollyrots is the self-titled 4th album from this Los Angeles duo. and is due out on 24th September on Arrested Youth Records.

It’s a mix of super-slick modern pop, classic three-chord punk rock, and a healthy dose of 80’s new wave. All the sugary, catchy, and aggressive elements that have become expected of the band are present and coupled with the spontaneous and decisive recording style of producer John Fields.

The album has a great 90’s pop punk feel pivotal to the success of bands like No Doubt but adds angst found in the post millennium rock of Paramore etc. But enough of the bullshit metaphors, what is the album really like?

Here at Rock Industry we got our paws on a copy and gave it an almost paid by the hour urgency once over.

Track listing blow by blow

1. Starting Over

Having hindsight and listened to the whole of the album this was a bit of a let down to begin with until it kicked into track 2 which should have been the kick off fucking good opening track.

2. I Wanna Go

Not sure what to make of this High School Musical, hijacked by punk, offering but in a soul embarrassing way its not actually that bad….. thank god as its the second track on the album.

3. Hyperactive

A commanding, great three chord punk offering a tongue in cheek look at emo-punk stereotypes…nuff said, good track!

4. Satellite

Full bodied and full of pop punk teen angst that Hayley Williams would love to be writing.

5. Twist Me To The Left

Carries on from the NoFX feel of other tracks, quite good and would be a good mix to add vocals in from Fat Mike.

6. Time Will Stop

If there was every a guitar opening that sounded a lot like ‘Stacie’s Mom’ but never kept the theme going its Time Will Stop. It has a definite Gwen Stefani post decent band feel and then gets ruined by synths for me. Now the style of the Dollyrots is just this as a definition but its too close to bringing up last nights hangover for me.

7. So Wrong It’s Right

This track has more of the post No Doubt, Gwen feel to it, a bit too poppy for us and stiflingly sticky and sweet repetitive chorus which killed a little bit of my soul listing to the very end.

8. F U Famous

The swinging commanding drum beat and screaming vocals at the end of the verse really add to this song, typically punk and typically dollyrots. The anti establishment and anti famous theme rings through the whole album but definitely more in this track.

9. Pretty On The Outside

Pretty on the outside is the sounding call for hating the ‘plastics’ generation and highlighting that even if they swallowed their makeup they wouldn’t be pretty on the inside. The song is a call to arms for people to be individual and happy with who you are……cliche punk pop but who cares when these guys do it so well.

10. South Of The Border

The Latino guitar feel to this track is skillfully mixed in with a hint of distortion and starts of really well however the puke inducing south of the border chorus takes us from NoFX feeling vibe to NoFuckingThanX in one foul swoop, skip it if you want non pop!

11. After 2012

This slower song sees Kelly mellowing the vibe down a bit with ‘ahhh ahhhh ahh’ backing vocals that build up in a psuedo crescendo during the voices. The strings and bells in the background add a non punk element to the very sweet sounding child like sound of Kelly. The chorus kicks in a galloping crunching sund that adds to the drama again with the dramatic dead stops at the end of each section. Its weird but this actually has a bit of a sleigh and Christmas sound to the tune albeit without the Christmas lyrics.

12. Starting Over Again

2 minutes 49 of pure crunching guitar, happy three chord punk gorgeousness…. Bonnie Raitt would be very proud of this vocal from the gorgeous Kelly

All in all its exactly what you would expect from The Dollyrots and from a pop punk album. Will people enjoy it? yes absolutely, did we enjoy it? not all of it. Does it have an element to make it a stand out album for 2012? no but its not too far off!

The Dollyrots return to the UK and Ireland this October for the ‘One Big Happy’ tour with Texan pop-punk favourites Bowling For Soup and also feature on their forthcoming album of the same name. They’ve not only contributed a brand new song but also a rendition of a track belonging to each of the tour bands (BFS & Patent Pending). Kelly and Jaret (BFS) then wrap things up with a brilliant duet.

CYTOTA to release debut EP 'THE PROSECUTOR'

Birminghams’ CYTOTA are set to release their debut EP ‘THE PROSECUTOR’ on September 10th 2012, via independent UK label Believe Revolt. The lead single ‘The Closest Thing (To a Hug is a Headlock)’ will be out on August 27th, and we’ve heard there’s a video to follow!

“United over a love of all things heavy, a fistful of ideas and the volume turned up to 11, ‘THE PROSECUTOR’ is a labour of love and over two years in the making.” There’s seven tracks of sweet post hardcore riffs, melodic vocals and a sound that’s well beyond their years… Yep, CYTOTA are all under 18!

The band had a helping hand in the studio from Austin Dickinson; frontman of Rise to Remain. As for the cover artwork? You can thanks Ollie Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon for that one.

Speaking of the themes within the album, vocalist Joby Fitzgerald explains…

“It doesn’t matter where you are from, who you are… looking ahead to the future right now it’s tough to see how any of us will be able to get jobs at all; let alone earn enough to survive. Everyone, including us, is scared. Growing up, learning life, we wanted to let people know through our music that you can get through your problems and overcome whatever life throws at you if you have a bit of heart. Let the music do the talking.”

Tracklisting for ‘THE PROSECUTOR’

1. Between Jokers & Jesters
2. Absorption (feat. Austin Dickinson of Rise To Remain)
3. Preparing For The Worst
4. Hold Back
5. Scars
6. Recidivist

Twin Atlantic - Yes I Was Drunk [Review]

Twin Atlantic have been making waves in the industry for a while now and seem to finally be getting recognition for what they do nationally. The band hailing from Scotland return with the single Yes I Was Drunk released on Red Bull Records on 27th August.

The single is mellow but anthemic with its lyrics, combining sedate soft vocals with angst laden emotion. What’s really good about Sam McTrusty (Vocals) is that he celebrates his Scottish roots and doesn’t try to hide his accent. The song pans out into one that would nicely relax an 80,000 crowd before exploding into the popular classic TA songs.

What’s great about Twin Atlantic is that they don’t try to be anything quirky or niche, they just produce cracking music and keep it simple and this works brilliantly on this track. The Album Free is all ready getting big press and this single will just add to it again. The single will come with two remixes, one of the title track Free and one of Yes I Was Drunk.

On top of their impending performances at Leeds/Reading the band are on tour in the Autumn so make sure you get tickets for this very soon.

All in all this single is a definite keeper and one to grab with both hands

GALLOWS ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE ‘OUTSIDER ART’ TO BE RELEASED OCTOBER 1ST

The bands self titled album is set to be released on September 10th on their own VENN Records Label in partnership with PIAS and will include a DVD documentary. Their third and self-titled album proves that their reputation as the UK’s most notorious and exciting punk band will not be changing any time soon.

“I’ve spent the last 10 years of my life getting lost on the road,” explains frontman Wade. “There’s some dark stories to tell. ‘Outsider Art’ is just one of them.”

A classic Gallows track through and through, it retains all of the bands power and aggression but at the same time leaves their ability to pen a distinctive melody intact.

You can view the video here:

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-utOgEJ3hs[/youtube]

A special edition version of the album will also include a DVD documentary that provides a fascinating and often hilarious insight into the world of Gallows over the last few months.

Gallows can now also announce that they will play a special record release launch at The Fighting Cocks  in Kingston on September 9th and have added a second night to The Underworld in Camden, now playing on both the 19th and 20th of October. Suffice to say, all of these shows will be hot, sweaty and utterly insane.

My Dying Bride - A MAP OF ALL OUR FAILURES COMING OCTOBER 15TH

It has been revealed that UK doom heroes My Dying Bride will entitle their forthcoming opus ‘A Map of all our Failures’. It will be released October 15th (USA October 16th) on Peaceville Records on CD, double vinyl & special edition CD/DVD. The album recording & mix was recently completed at Futureworks Studios in Manchester UK, with long-standing production maestro Mags at the helm.

A step up from 2009’s ‘For Lies I Sire’ - which set & subsequently met new heights of expectation placed upon the legendary Yorkshire doom troupe - ‘A Map of all our Failures’ is a further voyage into the darkest depths of humanity, religion, folklore, love & death. My Dying Bride’s distinctively sumptuous dual guitar melodies effortlessly flood into juggernaut doom metal riffs, with the vocals of Aaron Stainthorpe weaving a rich tapestry of tragic tales into the accompanying soundscapes. ‘A Map of all our Failures’ is perhaps best & most effectively summarised by guitarist Andrew Craighan, who describes the album as “a controlled demolition of all your hopes”.

The tracklisting is as follows:

1, Kneel till Doomsday
2, The Poorest Waltz
3, A Tapestry Scorned
4, Like A Perpetual Funeral
5, A Map of all our Failures
6, Hail Odysseus
7, Within The Presence of Absence
8, Abandoned As Christ

My Dying Bride has been the leading force in the death - doom metal genre since their inception in the early 90’s and have gone on to forge a legacy of greatness in the field over the past 2 decades.

The band will also be embarking upon a European tour in December in support of the album, as well as a local appearance at the UK’s esteemed Damnation Festival in November, at which Peaceville will be a proud sponsor to coincide with the label’s 25th anniversary.

Nov 3 2012 – Damnation Festival, Leeds England
Dec 7 2012 - 02 Academy Islington, London England
Dec 8 2012 - Nouveau Casino, Paris France
Dec 9 2012 – Rockfabrik, Ludwigsburg Germany
Dec 11 2012 - Viper Club, Florence Italy
Dec 12 2012 - Magazzini Generali, Milan Italy
Dec 13 2012 - Z7, Pratteln Switzerland

How to get your free beer and breakfast at Leeds/Reading!

As announced earlier this year, all Reading & Leeds Festival 2012 weekend ticket holders will be entitled to a free bap and beer or soft drink each of the three days.

Vouchers for the food will be sent out with the tickets from today, Monday 6th August, which festival goers can present to vendors in designated locations in the campsite until midday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. One food voucher will be valid for each day, so nobody has an excuse for missing breakfast (the most important meal of the day!) and setting yourself up for a weekend of musical magic. Buried In Verona release 'Notorious' on 13th August and hit the UK for shows with Motionless In White this September

BURIED IN VERONA RELEASE ‘NOTORIOUS’ 13TH AUGUST 2012 VIA ESSENTIAL UK TOUR WITH MOTIONLESS IN WHITE THIS AUTUMN!

Buried In Verona are happy to announce the release of their third fantastic album “Notorious” which is set to be out in the UK and Europe this August 13th. The band also plans to tour the UK in September with Motionless In White.

Album “Notorious” has already gone to number 1 on the ARIA album charts and receiver a great response from their homeland, Australian fans in the early summer. This autumn, the UK and Europe will have the pleasure of seeing these guys do their thing on tour and this will be their second time hitting our shores, so let’s welcome them with open arms.

“Notorious” is a very technical album with huge sounds and brilliant rhythm throughout. We begin with ‘Maybe Next Time’ which is already a BOOM in your sound system and leads the way to the other tunes alike ‘Four Years’ which is a Rock Industry fave!

‘Miles Away’ resembles ADTR with its tune but what’s wrong with that? It is catchy and then hits at home with the booming lyrics and we can’t get enough. The instrumental, strings start is a perfect opening to ‘The Descent’, giving us another get up and go song, getting you in the mood to mosh and displaying how this band can play around with their sound and mix it in with the mood and message that they are trying to convey!

‘Finders Keepers’ gives a nice finishing touch to the album which is, funnily enough, notorious in itself! The guitar and drum beats at the beginning get your head bopping and show how this band aren’t just interesting with the music they make, but very talented indeed!

Their tour dates with Motionless In White are as follows:

Wed 12 Sep Southampton Joiners 14+
Thu 13 Sep London Underworld 14+
Sat 15 Sep Birmingham Asylum
Sun 16 Sep Manchester Roadhouse 14+
Mon 17 Sep Glasgow Ivory Blacks 14+
Tue 18 Sep Leeds The Cockpit 14+

All doors are open @ 7pm.

House vs. Hurricane release Crooked Teeth, out 13th AUGUST

HOUSE VS HURRICANE RELEASE CROOKED TEETH 13th AUGUST 2012

House Vs. Hurricane are ready for the release of their upcoming album ‘Crooked Teeth’ which is due to come out this August the 13th. It has been long awaited for and will surely get a great reception from fans. These Melbourne born lads have delivered a great album which displays brilliance, talent and that they have some interesting ideas that will light up the heavy music world without any doubt!

The band have already seen great success in their homeland, Australia, with many sold out shows and the chance to support huge name bands such as Bullet For My Valentine and Enter Shikari. Their reputation will only continue to grow and ‘Crooked Teeth’ is the ingredient in their career that will help to achieve this. It is technical, powerful and has huge choruses that are all attention grabbing.

With a first listen to the album, ’40 Deep’ shows that there is no messing around from the outset. It gives the album a speed kick and gives that little something to make you want to listen on. Our favourite picks on the album are ‘Blood Knuckles’ with its slow start then super kick into the pace and ‘Lost World’ with its huge sound. Other tracks such as ‘Head Cold’, ‘All We Need’, ‘Dead Lizard’ and ‘Big Trouble’ give a nice touch to this brilliance. The slow number ‘Moon Shine’ gives the album that extra need of a slower song on such an album, with such a beautiful and creative tone. Then the final songs ‘Get Wrecked’ and ‘Haters Gonna Hate’, it is clear that these are the two which pose as the “perfect gig” songs, making you want to start a huge pit and go crazy, they present pummelling beats and head-on heaviness which is why this album stands as a 7 ½ out of 10!

House Vs. Hurricane’s album Crooked Teeth is out 13th August. The band will be over in the UK before the end of the year.

The video for the power thrilling song ‘Get Wrecked’ is out now so be sure to check it!

Gallows NEW ALBUM

New Gallows album is FINISHED!

Get excited because Gallows have just announced that they have finished their new record.

The band has been pretty quiet recently as they have been “Hiding away” in the studio making another smasher but made sure that they would “escape every weekend to play a festival in Germany or England just to remind ourselves there was something outside those walls.”

Their music always impresses fans and other listeners and greatly challenges our expectations … “We really pushed each other to make something new. But, we also made sure to look backwards at the music that has always inspired us” and this is why we love Gallows, they really know how to please everyone.

There will also be a special edition of the album in the UK/Europe and it will contain a documentary of the band’s life over the past few months which is very intimate and follows their recording process and their road life to name a few.

Teasing and pleasing us even more, they have ALSO announced that they will be on the road in the UK/Europe this September/October and tickets are available NOW so don’t hold back!
